Webranking 2017-2018 starts

The annual ranking of the corporate websites of Europe’s largest companies - Webranking by Comprend – has started for the 2017-2018 season. This year we celebrate 20 years!

That’s right, the first Webranking was launched the year that Internet Explorer version 4 was released, when Microsoft became the world’s most valuable company and buys a minority stake in Apple Computers. It was also the year that Harry Potter saw the light as well as Dolly, the cloned sheep.

To celebrate the 20 years with Webranking, we plan to launch an updated version of the Webranking Report which aims at making it easier to work with your results. Stay tuned for more information!

In case you don’t know what Webranking is about, read the 3 bullets below. If you already know, you can skip down to Important dates. This is what Webranking is about:

1 It’s based on stakeholder expectations

Every year we ask the stakeholders of corporate websites what they expect from listed companies when it comes to information about the companies, either as an investment, a company of interest for the public or as a potential employer. Based on responses from around 500 people – 200 representing the capital market and 300 representing jobseekers – we summarise their expectations into criteria that we use to rank the companies against.

The criteria are split up into different sections such as About us, Investor Relations, Sustainability and Careers. Some criteria also apply to the companies’ social media channels.

2 It covers the largest companies based on market cap

Using STOXX 600 as a base, we rank the 500 largest companies in Europe. Size is measured in market cap. As well as the top European companies, we also use Stoxx to select the top 100 largest global companies to rank.

In addition to these companies, we rank additional companies in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Italy and Portugal. These additional companies are also selected based on market cap, so we rank the largest companies in each country.

3 All companies can access their detailed results

Starting in October, we present the results with the best performing companies by publishing results by country on our website and in media. We also publish the results of all companies in the Europe 500 list as well as Global 100.

The purpose of Webranking is to help companies meet the expectations of their target groups. Therefore, the detailed result – criterion by criterion – is available in the Webranking Report which companies can purchase and use to improve their digital corporate communications. It is possible to pre-order the report now by emailing webranking@comprend.com or contacting any of us. For report types and prices see comprend.com/webranking.
