Webranking by Comprend 2015-2016 has assessed the corporate websites of 803 companies within Europe and beyond on how well they fulfil the digital content needs of stakeholders. This year's results show that Danish companies have a slightly weaker web presence in comparison to last year – resulting in reduced average scores in every section except governance and functions.

The 19th edition of Webranking included 20 Danish companies - of which 16 were part of the Financial Times Europe 500. This year, the overall average score for Denmark is 43.8 out of 100, which is 1.8 points lower than last year. However, the Danish average score is aligned with the 500 largest companies in Europe (41.9) and the Swedish listed companies (46.0).

Governance: a bright spot

On governance information, Denmark has one of the highest average fulfilment rates among all countries included in the ranking. However, averaging 50.7% of total score proves that the Danish companies still have a way to go to fill the gap between the information stakeholders need and information provided.

Danish companies has impressive corporate governance reporting with 90% of companies offering a stand-alone report. Danish companies are also significantly better at providing remuneration policies compared to the 500 largest companies in Europe – a subject regarded as important by 83% of stakeholders.

Financial reporting: increased online reporting

Financial reporting is one of the strongest areas of Danish websites, reaching an average fulfilment level of 53.9%. This score is closely aligned with the score of FT Europe 500 companies (53.7%), but lower than that achieved by Finnish companies (62.5%).

Online reporting is of increased importance due to the rising number of mobile visitors. This year, 25.0% of the Danish companies provide their latest online report on the corporate website, compared to only 15.0% last year. However, this is an area for improvement since many of the online reports lack useful features and content like financial statements, interactive charts and video content.

Share information: highest decreased average score

Although receiving a higher score than the FT Europe 500 on share information, Danish companies have decreased the total average score by 8 percentage points from last year (from 55.0% to 47.0%). The lag is mainly due to scarce information on major shareholders (30.0%) and share capital development (15.0%).

Careers and recruitment: missed opportunities

Providing extensive and appealing career pages is increasingly important as prospective job applicants often visit corporate websites to evaluate the company. Danish companies miss opportunities to attract relevant job applicants, performing below the European average with a score of 35.6%.

96% of jobseekers look on corporate websites for information about what it is like to work at a company. Yet, only 25.0% of Danish companies receive a score for presenting the work environment. Denmark also falls short on providing information about mobility guidelines (5.0%), competence development opportunities (45.0%), policies for compensation and benefits (37.5%) and HR contacts (4.3%).

"Danske Bank is the winning company for the twelfth consecutive year and secures its strong leading edge scoring almost 10 points above the runner-up this year. It is in particular the high performance in the investor-related sections, as well as the increased transparent communication of the corporate control and direction that makes the company keep the top position,” says Helena Wennergren, Head of Research at Comprend.
