Finland 2024-2025
Finland maintains its position as the leading country in Webranking with an impressive average score of 60.49, which is significantly higher than the Europe 500's average of 48.42. This year, Finnish companies improved their performance even further, with an increase of 1.99 points from last year. This growth highlights the continued efforts of Finnish companies to meet stakeholder expectations, particularly in corporate transparency and digital communications.
However, despite these advancements, challenges remain, especially in the area of digital accessibility, where Finnish companies lag behind their European peers.

Key findings
- Only 12% of Finnish companies have an accessibility statement but show good performances in accessibility scans. With the European accessibility act coming into effect in 2025, this is an opportunity for companies to meet evolving expectations in digital inclusivity.
- The governance sections of the Finnish companies outperform other European countries by 26 percentage points, largely because many companies are transparent about board member information and disclose insider transactions and policies.
- Finnish companies distinguish themselves in the share section by publishing various information about their shareholders, exceeding the European average by +23 percentage points.
Strengths and best practices
Leading the way in transparency
Governance continues to be the strongest section among Finnish companies, with an average fulfilment of 82%, compared to the European average of 56%.
An insider management policy is found on 96% of Finnish corporate websites, which leads to an outstanding difference in the average criteria fulfilment compared with the European average of 22%, making it 74 percentage points higher. Recent insider transactions have also been disclosed by an average of 52 percentage points higher than the Europe 500 average in Finland. This type of information is essential as it shows the company's dedication to preventing insider risks. By clearly outlining rules for handling sensitive company information, such policies help protect the company and their shareholders from unethical practices.
The high governance score in Finland is also driven by the wide range of information provided about board members and managers. This includes clear remuneration figures for both group management and the board of directors, which contributes to greater transparency. CVs of board members and management are also often disclosed.
Wärtsilä showcases the highest performing governance section with the almost-perfect score of 8.9 of the maximum score of 9. This reflects the exceptional quality of their governance section, which is structured and presented in a way that closely aligns with stakeholder expectations. The governance section is filled with relevant details that corporate audiences— such as investors, analysts, and governance professionals— expect, which contributes to Wärtsilä's strong ranking performance.
Detailed shareholder disclosures
The share-related information also excels the European averages—Finnish companies significantly outperform their European counterparts in this area, exceeding the European average by +23 percentage points, with an average performance of 65% of the criteria fulfilled.
A distinguishing factor in the share section is the depth of information provided about shareholders; it is driven by criteria such as the distribution of shares, information on major shareholders, their sector or geographical distribution, and clear identification of shareholders holding more than 5%. By offering this level of transparency, companies strengthen their credibility and cultivate trust with investors and stakeholders. This approach to shareholder information sets a benchmark for other European companies.

Challenges and opportunities for improvement
Accessibility compliance vs communication
In response to the growing importance of digital inclusivity and the European accessibility act, which will take effect in 2025, we have updated our Webranking criteria to include more accessibility-related metrics. This change reflects the increasing demand from stakeholders for companies to ensure their digital platforms are accessible to all users.
A challenge we observed on Finnish corporate websites is that many lack an accessibility statement. This is one of the lowest-performing areas, with only 12% of ranked companies presenting accessibility statements on their corporate websites. Finnish companies are also falling behind the European average by -23 %.
However, scans made in collaboration with Accessibility Cloud gave highly positive ratings for 78% of companies, slightly above European levels (76%), indicating that Finnish companies generally comply with accessibility standards.
Even if the Finnish companies are meeting accessibility standards, as indicated by the high compliance rates, the lack of an accessibility statement hinders their ability to communicate these efforts. The statement acts as a formal declaration of commitment and provides users with essential information, such as accessibility features, ongoing improvements, and ways to report issues. Without this transparency, companies may struggle to build confidence with users and stakeholders who rely on accessible digital experiences.
